Research

On behalf of the AAGL and the members of the AAGL Research Committee, who have worked closely on this project, we are very pleased to present the AAGL Research Registries. The registries seek to provide an opportunity to learn from each other’s experiences, specifically from unusual conditions, occurrences, and undesired outcomes. We are seeking participation of AAGL members (and others) from throughout the country and the world, to make these as informative as possible.

The registries deal with the topics of incisional hernias following operative gynecologic laparoscopy, vaginal cuff complications after hysterectomy, pregnancy outcome after endometrial ablation, complications of synthetic vaginal mesh for prolapse, cervical pregnancy, port-site recurrences after laparoscopic surgery for malignancy, and vaginal cuff recurrences after laparoscopic surgery for malignancy.

If you have patients who are candidates for inclusion in these registries, and you wish to participate by submission of subject information, you will need to complete the entire registry form. The forms will be entered online. You should receive acknowledgement of receipt by e-mail or fax within one week. After review of the information provided, you may be contacted by an AAGL Research Committee member for additional information or clarifications.

Importantly, none of the information you provide to the Registry should contain any identifying information about the subject whose care you are describing. Thus, you should not provide the subject’s name, initials, social security number, date of birth, date of surgery, etc. You will be asked to create an unique identifier for each subject, and to keep your copy of the registry data submitted. You will never be asked to provide information to the Registry to identify the subject. The AAGL Registry has been approved by the Institutional Review Board of Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan.

We are excited about the introduction of the AAGL Research Registry, and would welcome suggestions for other registries, as well as other research to be coordinated/conducted by the AAGL.
