Welcome to AAGL

When established in 1971, the AAGL was the first organization ever to be dedicated to gynecological endoscopic surgery.  Today, with approximately, 3,800 members and affiliations with 30 other international endoscopic societies, the AAGL remains the world's largest professional association of gynecologists who specialize in the use of minimally invasive procedures for diagnosing and treating disorders of the female reproductive system and pelvic floor.  Through education, communication and research, the AAGL has become a premier forum for specialists in this expanding medical arena.

The AAGL vision is to serve women by advancing the safest and most efficacious diagnostic and therapeutic techniques that provide less invasive treatments for gynecologic conditions through integration of clinical practice, research, innovation, and dialogue.

AAGL works to improve the quality of gynecological health care services for women by promoting and advocating the foremost advances in relevant technology, science and education.  We do so by providing the latest medical and scientific information to our membership; fostering communication among clinicians, researchers and allied health care professionals; supporting continuing medical education for physicians; serving as a resource of accurate and timely information for the media; and providing online patient education resources.

  • AAGL enhances knowledge and communication among physicians by publishing the highly acclaimed Journal of Minimally Invasive Gynecology (JMIG), as well as a quarterly newsletter, NewsScope.

  • Attracting a broad international audience of practicing surgeons, residents and fellows, operating room personnel and other allied health care professionals, AAGL organizes and sponsors an annual five-day Global Congress as a forum for:
    • presentation and discussion of new research
    • exhibits and demonstrations of advances in medical technologies
    • interaction with experts and colleagues
    • continuing medical education such as practice development courses, postgraduate courses, and live telesurgery courses from around the world

  • In addition to its annual congress, AAGL organizes regional continuing medical education courses and workshops in the United States.

  • For the media, the AAGL provides authoritative resources and news on the website as well as press conferences and teleconferences to link journalists with experts in the field of minimally invasive gynecology.

  • To support patient education, the AAGL devotes a section of its website to explaining gynecological conditions and treatment options in lay language and provides a "find-a-doc" tool to help women locate a gynecologist who is a member of the AAGL in their area.
