WATCH ON DEMAND: Dr. Marco Aurelio P. Oliveira, M.D. Ph.D. on Myomectomy of the Large Uterus
On September 9, 2014 at 9am PDT / 12 noon EDT, Dr. Marco Aurelio P. Oliveira, M.D. Ph.D. presented a live webcast on Myomectomy for a Large Uterus live on SurgeryU HD.
The audience had the opportunity to see how laparoscopy can achieve a good result in a complex myomectomy case, involving a nulliparous woman. Pre-operative use of GnRH analogs, identification and ligation of the uterine arteries, use of harmonic scalpel and barbed sutures are some strategies utilized for the treatment of this 973g uterus with 18 intramura/subserosal myomas.
At the completion of the presentation, the participants should be better able to:
- Recognize the indications and the potential problems of the use of GnRH analog preoperatively for laparoscopic myomectomy
- Discuss the role of ligation of the uterine arteries (permanent or temporary) intraoperatively
- Identify the advantages of the barbed sutures to close myometrium after myoma removal
- Describe some alternatives to power morcelation for myoma extraction
