Barrow Neurological Institute, St. Joseph's Hospital & Medical Center

AAGL has developed this course for one of the most competitive fellowships in the country, the Fellowship in Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery (FMIGS). Through an innovative curriculum that incorporates a combination of targeted didactics and surgical skills laboratories, first year FMIGS fellows will be exposed to introductory principles in minimally invasive gynecologic surgery while returning second and third year fellows will further build upon their skills and delve deeper into more advanced concepts. Both high and low fidelity surgical skill platforms will be utilized including cadaveric training. Unique to this year's boot camp, will be workshops on career planning after fellowship as well as communication skills for teaching and beyond. Simulation based medical education with a focus on team dynamics will also be emphasized.
A new portion of this program is a half-day session dedicated to fellowship Program Directors and assistant Program directors. This session will provide a scaffold to operationalize and optimize an effective fellowship in minimally invasive gynecology. Topics will include developing a curriculum and recruiting faculty, participating in the application/match process, funding a fellowship, promoting research, and fostering a successful learning environment for your fellow. Tips on how to be an effective surgical mentor and how to provide feedback and debrief will be shared as well.
The ultimate goal of this two-day boot camp is to educate and update fellows on the latest theories, techniques and development in minimally invasive gynecologic surgery as they transition from trainee to practicing clinician and ultimately to physician trainer and leader. Faculty are comprised of fellowship preceptors and prior fellows from around the country who have volunteered to donate their time, money and expertise to lead this educational endeavor.
