Fundamentals of Laparoscopic Suturing and Knot Tying with Clinical Applications

Description
This one-hour online activity is designed for academic faculty, practicing physicians, fellows and residents who want to improve their understanding of laparoscopic suturing, laparoscopic knot tying, and the fundaments of depth perception in laparoscopy. The fundamental concepts of triangulation, monocular cues, needle loading, tissue approximation, extracorporeal knot tying, and intra-corporeal knot tying will be reviewed. Clinical demonstrations of these concepts and techniques will also be presented.

Learning Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, the participant will be able to: 1) Describe various monocular cues that aid in depth perception at the time of laparoscopic suturing; 2) describe the critical elements of needle loading and tissue approximation; 3) identify the common mistakes made with intra-corporeal knot tying and how they can be overcome; and 4) identify clinical applications of various suturing techniques.

Target Audience
This educational activity is developed to meet the needs of residents, fellows and new minimally invasive specialists in the field of gynecology.

The AAGL is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

The AAGL designates this enduring material for a maximum of 1.0 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s)TM.  Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.
