Urogynecology / Vaginal Surgery
Welcome to AAGL’s specialty page dedicated to minimally invasive surgeons with a focus on urogynecology.
The 2018 Goals of this SIG are:
Goal 1- As representatives of the specialty of Urogynecology in a large surgical gynecology society, our goal is to emphasize the need to identify and address pelvic floor disorders that can be treated or prevented during gynecologic surgery. First and foremost, our SIG will emphasize and promote the importance of apical suspension at the time of minimally invasive hysterectomy. This small but important step may help us reduce the increasing number of women that are affected by prolapse as our aging population grows.
Measurable outcome- We expect to see an observable increase in Urogynecology contributions of research and technique videos presented at the Global Congress that will promote goal 1.
Goal 2 – We will continue to promote Vaginal Hysterectomy and Vaginal Surgery as the least invasive surgical option for many women. This goal is an ongoing goal for the SIG dedicated specifically to improving access to fellowship training.
Measurable outcome- We hope to have an increased presence during the FMIGS Boot Camp to allow further teaching in vaginal surgery for our fellowship trainees. With new technology like the VITOM, we expect more contributions from our SIG to the Global Congress, promoting and demonstrating excellent vaginal surgery techniques.
Goal 3 – We will work towards increasing the membership of the SIG. Identifying and encouraging further Urogynecologic and Vaginal surgeons to join and be active members in AAGL will help disperse cutting edge, evidence based medicine and continue to elevate the level of evidence presented from the SIG.
Measurable outcome- We anticipate increased numbers within our SIG membership.
